Animal Care– Chittaranjan National Cancer Institute (CNCI)
The Animal House Department plays a pivotal role in supporting cancer research at CNCI by ensuring the ethical and scientific use of laboratory animals for experimental studies.
Objectives:
- Produce high-quality, healthy animals through scientific breeding techniques.
- Supply healthy, disease-free animals to various departments for research purposes.
- Provide technical assistance for animal experimentation.
- Organize Institutional Animal Ethics Committee (IAEC) meetings to review and guide animal experimentation projects.
- Supervise ethical compliance in all animal research activities.
Highlights of Work (April 2023 – March 2024):
CCSEA Registration Renewal:
The Animal House's registration with the Committee for Control and Supervision of Experiments on Animals (CCSEA) (Registration No. 1774/GO/RBi/S/14/CCSEA) was successfully renewed for five years from 7th June 2023.
Institutional Animal Ethics Committee (IAEC):
Annual Inspection:
The annual inspection by the CCSEA Nominee took place on 19th December 2023, ensuring compliance with national ethical standards.
Animal Supply:
Swiss albino, Balb/c, and C57BL/6J mice were bred and supplied to various research departments within the institute, meeting their experimental needs.
Infrastructure:
- Temperature-controlled environments for animal welfare.
- Dedicated spaces for breeding, housing, and experimentation.
- Advanced equipment for experimental studies and animal monitoring.
