About the Department
The Department provides Medical physics service for the effective, safe and efficient delivery of cutting-edge Radiotherapy treatments achieved through research, process improvement, technology, and automation.
Offer an environment that encourages and supports learning and intellectual development; provides educational and training programs for students, post-doctoral fellows, residents and faculty to enhance their productivity; and to produce professionals and leaders for the needs of profession. The Department of Medical Physics works in association with Department of Radiation Oncology for the radiation treatment and has expertise in related areas. The department is engaged in Treatment planning, Commissioning, calibration, QA and maintenance of treatment machines, Radiation Safety, room designing, education and research.
The Department also advises and assists allied departments like Radiology, Nuclear Medicine and Research radioisotope laboratories regarding matters of Radiation safety, Radiation source procurement and radiation waste disposal.
Facilities
The staff has acquired adequate expertise in all advanced treatment techniques like Three-dimensional conformal radiotherapy (3DCRT), Intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT), Volumetric-Modulated Arc Therapy (VMAT), Stereotactic Radiation Therapy (SRT), Stereotactic Radiosurgery (SRS), Stereotactic Body Radiation Therapy (SBRT), Image-Guided Radiation Therapy (IGRT) and Adaptive Radiotherapy. Image based three dimensional Brachytherapy, USG Guided Prostate Implant.
Academic Activities
The department imparts training, conducts courses and provides faculty for the courses conducted by allied departments:
Ph. D. in Medical Physics under Jadavpur University &West Bengal University of Health Sciences. Post M.Sc. Diploma Course in Medical Physics in collaboration with Jadavpur University One year Internship program for Medical Physics students.
MD Radiotherapy under West Bengal University of Health Sciences.
Diploma in Radio therapeutic Technology [DRT (Tech)] under State Medical Faculty, West Bengal.
Diploma in Radio diagnosis Technology [DRD (Tech)] under State Medical Faculty, West Bengal.
Short Term training for radiotherapy professionals within country.
